Back in 1970 there was a "Little-O-Band" making one hell of a noise in a rock and roll venue in Groves, Texas. That band was ZZ Top and the venue was the Town House. Needless to say, it made quite an impression on everyone who was lucky enough to have witnessed these first gigs. Over a quarter of a century later, we're still impressed - impressed enough to have designed the ultimate dual humbucking guitar and then name it after the place where our inspiration began.

The Town House guitar is a streamlined improvement over the "classic" ‘Burst of the 1950’s. While retaining the aesthetic appeal of the guitar that inspired it; the Town House has been designed to facilitate a more "even" tonal balance between the lowest and highest register of the instrument, concentrating on a robust midrange, but, without the "nasal honk" of similar guitars. As well, the playing "action" [where the neck joins the body] has been improved by virtue of a slimmer, less bulky, body thickness. This also lightened the guitar, thus eliminating the chronic complaint of back fatigue. A "belly cut" on the back side of the guitar gives the player a more comfortable fit. Also, the "waist" of the instrument was moved down a little, to make the guitar balance on the leg when sitting down.

Ok, that takes care of the body, but what about the neck? Take a second and pretend you’re picking up a glass - now notice the way your hand looks, as it reaches for that imaginary glass. Do you see an offset "v" shape? That is the concept behind our [rounded] offset "v" neck profile. The neck fits your hand in a natural way, which accounts for the "easy" playing action our guitars are known for. The other advantage would be improved tone, achieved by more neck mass [but only on the "big string" side of the neck].

For our frets, we choose tall but narrow. This allows better traction for string bending and improved sustain. The fret wire is a high grade alloy designed for long life (especially when Kendrick "pure nickel" strings are used).

The pickups are strictly old style humbucking, like those made in the late 1950’s. Like the best of the highly sought after original humbuckers, our pickups have that "sweetness," that connoisseurs have raved about for decades.

The woods used to build Kendrick guitars are hand picked for tone and beauty. We do not believe in the "cookie cutter, mass production" techniques of the huge corporations and therefore prefer to "hand make" our guitars "one at a time." For the Town House body, we use the finest mahogany, maple and rosewood. The guitar is finished with light coats of nitrocellulose lacquer and polished by hand.
